Project Galaxy Rebrands to Galxe, Evolving From a "Project" Into a Fully Developed Ecosystem
By Tsani Gramatikova access_time 3 min read

The developers of Project Galaxy have announced a rebranding to Galxe (pronounced GAL-X-E). The rebrand includes a brand new logo, a new domain name, and some exciting features coming soon.

Galxe, the world’s leading Web3 credential data network, has reached many milestones in 2021 and 2022. In light of its recent successes, the company has transitioned from “project” status to a fully formed ecosystem, covering a diverse range of Web3 branches – from infrastructures to NFT to DeFi to GameFi. Since Web3 is evolving rapidly, experts in the field must constantly adjust to remain competitive. Galxe is confident that this rebranding will allow consumers to see Web3 in a new way while also rewarding them.

This rebrand from Project Galaxy to Galxe wasn’t merely a marketing move, but rather a natural progression and evolution. We are no longer a “project” but rather a fully-fledged ecosystem within Web3. Similarly, our logo has matured from three straight lines to flying comets. Like comets exploring the universe, we at Galxe are passionate about constantly innovating and pushing the boundaries of what’s technologically possible. We aren’t static and never plan to be. Our team is excited to take our Web3 community and partners along with us because their continued support is what makes all of this possible.

Altering the spelling of existing words like Galaxy is often used in order to create a unique brand name that is still meaningful and communicates the mission and idea behind a brand. It can be a risky move as it may confuse customers due to difficulties in spelling, but when done well it has proved to be a great branding strategy – just think of Reddit or Fiverr. Still worth noting in the Fiverr case they secured the Fiver.com name as the company grew, similar to Flickr (with Flicker.com).

Before investing in the exact brand match domain name Galxe.com, the company was operating on Galaxy.eco.

.eco is a top-level domain (TLD) that became available to the general public on April 25, 2017. The domain is unique due to its two-stage activation process. After registering a .eco domain is placed on hold until the registrant completes the process of publicly pledging, “We pledge to support positive change for the planet and to be honest when sharing information on environmental actions.” and choosing a number of sustainable development goals that they wish to strive toward. This strategy was created in collaboration with environmental organizations to reduce misinformation and other types of abuse that may result from using the domain.
