Complete Solaria Rebrands as SunPower and Establishes Full Brand Control with SunPower.com
By Tsani Gramatikova access_time 3 min read

Complete Solaria has announced it is rebranding to SunPower, following the acquisition of SunPower Corporation’s assets in 2024. The decision brings back a well-established name in solar energy, with a reputation built over decades of innovation and leadership in residential solar services.

The original SunPower was founded in 1985 and became known for its high-efficiency solar technology and contributions to the early growth of the US solar industry. It went public in 2005 and exceeded $1 billion in annual revenue just a few years later. Over time, the company faced a series of challenges, including rising interest rates and regulatory shifts that impacted its core markets. SunPower filed for bankruptcy in August 2024 after defaulting on its debt.

T.J. Rodgers, who played a role in SunPower’s early success and later co-founded Complete Solaria, led the acquisition of SunPower’s assets for $45 million. Rodgers now serves as the company’s Chief Executive Officer and Chair. He aims to retain the brand value built over nearly 40 years while restructuring the business to operate more efficiently. The combined company has reduced its workforce and reports strong financial performance, with over $300 million in annualised revenue and a return to profitability.

Rodgers explained the company’s new direction and identity with clear intent.

We humbly assume the responsibility of moving forward, knowing SunPower’s reputation for operational excellence and industry-leading technology. That’s our heritage, and we will live up to it.

T.J. Rodgers, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of SunPower

A new logo inspired by NASA’s Helios solar-powered aircraft reflects the company’s renewed focus on innovation and ambition. The aircraft, which flew using only SunPower solar cells and set a record altitude in 2001, symbolises the company’s technological past and future direction.

Bringing back the SunPower name reflects more than recognition. It signals a focus on trust, performance, and stability in the residential solar sector. SunPower now offers integrated solar services for homeowners across North America, combining design, installation, and technology through a unified digital platform.

The rebrand also includes acquiring the Exact Brand Match (EBM) domain name SunPower.com, a valuable asset in reinforcing the company’s identity. It supports trust, improves visibility across digital platforms, and strengthens recognition in a competitive market. For a brand returning to the public eye, owning the matching domain ensures consistency and makes it easier for customers to find and engage with the company online.
