By Arnaud PETIT access_time 2 min read

Leading defense contractor Raytheon Technologies announced a rebrand on Monday, taking on the new name “RTX” alongside a significant investment in the three-letter .com domain: RTX.COM

In a LinkedIn post, the company revealed its new streamlined name, RTX. This rebrand arrives three years post the significant merger of Raytheon with United Technologies Corp., leading to the creation of Raytheon Technologies. Following the merger, the company’s shares have been trading under the RTX ticker symbol.

This is more than a new brand. It is a signal of the next step in our company’s transformation.

The decision comes as part of a strategic effort to modernise the company’s image and reflect its increasingly diverse range of technologies. Originally known for its missile systems and defense solutions, Raytheon has expanded over the years into various tech-driven fields such as cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and advanced manufacturing. The new, succinct moniker “RTX” is intended to encapsulate this broader focus, symbolizing a dynamic, technology-focused company that is ready for the challenges of the 21st century.

RTX is a nod to the past and a nod to the future.

Greg Hayes, the company’s chief executive

The acquisition of the rare three-letter .com domain and the rebranding strategy highlight RTX’s willingness to prioritise and invest in its digital identity. It will not only facilitate improved customer engagement but also foster brand recognition in an era where digital interactions are the norm.

The defense industry is incredibly competitive, with numerous large-scale companies and startups alike vying for contracts and opportunities in a global market that is heavily influenced by political factors, budget constraints, and technological advancements. Companies in this sector are required to stay ahead of evolving threats, navigate complex regulatory environments, and constantly innovate. The role of branding in the defense industry is paramount as it serves as a strategic tool for positioning, differentiation, and growth.
