Names with stories: The story behind Gaviti.com
By SmartBranding Team access_time 4 min read

In this interview, we talk with Yan Lazarev, Co-Founder and CEO of Gaviti, a software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform that helps manage and collect invoices, about the original source of inspiration for starting the company, their choice of the domain name, and what’s next for Gaviti.

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and how Gaviti got started?

My background is corporate finance. I have managed collection teams for years before starting Gaviti. At a certain point our collections effort did not scale well, so is the ability to hire more people to the team. We were really frustrated, unable to find an adequate solution to automate the receivable collections process. All there was is very basic solutions that were not a fit for a NASDAQ traded company or solutions that would cost millions to buy and years to implement. THERE HAD TO BE A BETTER WAY.

So I have teamed up with Alex Komarovsky who is a world class expert in software engineering and integrations to build Gaviti, a receivable collection management solution that makes the A/R collection process managed, automated, easier to control and gathers actionable insights to help improve the performance overtime and make the collection success easy to replicate.

How did you get the Gaviti.com domain name? Was there an “aha” moment when you knew it is the one?

Our Co-Founder and CTO, Alex Komarovsky suggested going for something simple.

Gaviti in Hebrew means “ I have collected”, which makes sense given our offering.

Yan Lazarev, Co-Founder & CEO of Gaviti

We also knew right away that getting the domain name should be easy as this isn’t a common word/name globally.

What value do you think Gaviti.com brings to the Gaviti brand? Do you own any other domain names?

We own only our brand name domain at the moment but definitely looking to add more relevant domains as we grow our offering and add additional geographies.

What was the vision and purpose of your company when it first started and how has Gaviti evolved as a brand since?

All we wanted is to help companies get more of their invoices paid faster, to empower the collector chasing those invoices. Make them rockstars.

Quickly we understood that we could bring much more value. After interaction with hundreds of thousands of payees, we introduced the payables assistant to help them to self-serve and pay the outstanding invoices faster in a more secured fashion.

In your area of expertise, what are some of the bad brand naming recommendations you’ve heard?

Naming the company with something generic on one hand or something non-related to the field of business.

What do you do to make sure your marketing is effective?

Measure and benchmark constantly. Then, challenging ourselves to do better VS last benchmarks.
Once we prove that a certain marketing initiative works well, we try to scale as fast as possible.

What would your advice be to entrepreneurs who are just starting out?

Believe in yourself, try to challenge yourself to do more every day and maintain self discipline to assure you execute your tasks and reach your goals.

Yan Lazarev, Co-Founder & CEO of Gaviti

What is next for Gaviti?

We have just raised a $9M series A, so there is a lot of capital we are going to deploy bringing the best people to help us scale our client base globally and bring those clients the best version of Gaviti ever. Adding more capabilities, features, and support to make our offering even a better value.
