Calendso rebrands to Cal.com

Did you know today’s Cal.com, an open-source calendar, scheduling, and appointment initiative that reduces emails and workload, started with a completely different brand name? The company rebranded from Calendso to Cal.com in September 2021, and here’s the story behind this fantastic brand.

In October 2020, Peer Richelsen joined the On Deck Founder Fellowship. After desperately looking for “Calendly Open Source” on Google without success, he decided to move forward with the idea of starting his calendly alternative: Calednso.com.

Two months later, Lean Hire was acquired by On Deck and Peer completely stopped pursuing the idea. However, people continued to sign up for the waitlist and joined Calendso Slack. Luckily, the Product Hunt team was happy to support Calendso founders Peer Richelsen and Bailey Pumfleet with a Maker Grant to continue building their product.

In September 2021, 5 months after the first initial launch on Product Hunt, Peer Richelsen, Co-founder and Co-CEO of Cal, announced Calandso is rebranding to Cal.com.

As you can see, the company decided to include the .com in their brand name. We are not surprised; they do not miss the opportunity to say how proud they are to own this great domain name.

After several months of brand exercises, research and negotiations with domain owners, we were lucky to come to terms with the previous owners of Cal.com.

Not only that, their users were thrilled by this move – and the company got many congratulations messages on Twitter. It must be great to see this love and warm feedback from your audience.

In the continuation of the announcement, the company also mentioned that going from Calendso.com/peer (8 letters) down to Cal.com/peer (3 letters) saves you 62.5% of typing. They even made this cute gif that will show what better what they are talking about.

The company also got a matching trademark registration application for Cal.com. What started as an open-source side project has now grown to serve hundreds of companies and thousands of customers every day. The open-source community is now proudly powered by over 10.000 total members, with over 2,500 who just joined in the last 14 days. Without a doubt, this rebrand was the right move by the company.
