BELIGAS is a social enterprise that was founded in June 2020 during the peak of the pandemic crisis. Their mission is to empower those who have lost their jobs during the lockdown by providing them with cooking gas. Over the past two years, the company has evolved from a simple home gas delivery service to a multi-service provider used by 17,000 monthly customers at its peak.
As part of its transformation program, BELIGAS rebranded to EDAR.com on September 30, 2022, in an effort to better communicate its services to end consumers. The new company name EDAR is derived from the name of its licensing company BELIGAS EDARAN. The word Edar, translated from the Malay language, means “distribute.”
BELIGAS has been good to us for the last 2 years, but I feel it doesn’t represent all that we do anymore, and what we aspire to be. The main reason for this being, is that we are not just a “simple website to purchase cooking gas only’. We have evolved much beyond what we started. In fact, our core product is not even LPG anymore! Thus, I feel, its time for a change. FIRST, is the name. We went with EDAR. At that time, we only thought that we will be selling cooking gas. But over time, we realized how restrictive and painful it was when we expanded beyond “just selling cooking gas”.

EDAR now operates as a B2B wholesale company, with three main branches: EDARgas, which delivers bulk cooking gas; EDARborong, which delivers FMCG and essential supplies and groceries; and EDARsemula, the company’s recycling arm.
Before its rebranding, BELIGAS operated under the .my domain extension, which is the country code top-level domain for Malaysia. Country code domains can provide more freedom of choice, but they can also bring potential risks.
It takes guts to change a name. We have invested hundreds of thousands in marketing campaigns to promote BELIGAS. The question rings: What will the market reaction be? And so be it. We then invested and secured EDAR.com from the market; a premium 20+ years old domain name for this rebrand. Cost us big bucks for sure, but it is important to get the basics right.
