Logojoy rebrands to Looka
By Kristina Mišić access_time 2 min read

Did you know Looka started as Logojoy? A graphic design platform that helps you generate a logo online, was launched on November 22, 2016, on Product Hunt. Dawson Whitefield founded the company after experiencing frustration creating logos for clients.

Even though Logojoy was helping other businesses get great branding, that wasn’t the company’s top priority early on. Logojoy surveyed visitors from its four most important markets, Canada, the US, UK, and Australia, and it found that users wanted more than just logos. It was clear that taking the word “logo” out of their brand name was something the company had to do.

According to Looka’s blog post, the team behind the brand thought the name needed to meet the following criteria:

  1. Short, distinctive, and easy to spell (because their customer base is global)
  2. Nearly impossible to mispronounce
  3. Had a .com URL available

In April 2019, after brainstorming 150+ names, Logojoy officially rebranded to Looka to expand its product offerings to brand packages that include logo files, brand guidelines, social media assets, business card designs, and websites.

Changing the name was terrifying. I love the name Logojoy, but it’s way too limiting. It didn’t give us room to grow.

Along with a new name, Looka has rebranded its logo and website. The company smartly acquired the EBM (Exact Brand Match) domain Looka.com.

When I say Looka, I think of one of our customers saying ‘look at this!’And when I think of one of our customers saying it, they’re proud of their design and what they’ve done — they want to show it off to their friends.

Since its launch in 2016, Looka has been used by 3.3 million entrepreneurs and stated that it sold more than CAD 8.1 million worth of logo packages. The company also benefited from investor attention; Looka has raised a total of $5.5M in funding over two rounds. Their latest funding was raised on Nov 15, 2018, from a Series A round.
