Carrd Avoids Users Mistyping its Name Securing

Carrd is a platform for building simple, fully responsive one-page sites for pretty much anything. Since launch it has got over 5000 upvotes on Product Hunt, making it one the most popular products of all time on the platform.

The concept behind Carrd is simple – as founder AJ shares « it’s a free service for building and hosting simple, responsive, one-page sites for … basically whatever, be it a personal “business card” style site or a “coming soon” page Â». Which explains the name – Carrd.

Similar to their rival linktree, Carrd’s exact brand match domain name was out of reach initially. Short brandable .com domains can oftentimes get pricey due to their rarity and high demand from global brands for good names. So Carrd launched on a compromise domain name with the .co domain extension – the country code for Columbia.

As the founder worked on adding features and improving user experience he got well aware that many visitors intuitively type .com after the brand name. It is not clear when did AJ invest in securing the .Com domain name for Carrd but it clearly was a risk for him that he was ready to take because he believed in the future of the brand.

Fast forward to today, Carrd already served over 400,000 users, hosting north of 600,000 of their sites and tens of thousands of new users and sites coming online every month.
