Ariyh Rebrands to Science Says for a More Memorable Brand Identity
By Monica Stankova access_time 3 min read

Ariyh, known for its 3-minute marketing recommendations based on the latest scientific research, has changed its name to Science Says. The rebrand marks a significant evolution for the company, which began as a test project under the acronym “Academic Research In Your Hands” (Ariyh) four years ago.

As the brand grew, attracting an audience of nearly 30,000 weekly readers, some key challenges with the name became apparent. These included difficulty in pronunciation, spelling, and memorability, leading the team to rethink the brand’s identity.

When it came to choosing a name for my idea, I didn’t think it over too much. I prioritized going to market and testing it. Acronyms seemed to be the answer to finding an available .com domain, so after playing around with a few ideas I settled on one. Academic Research In Your Hands. ARIYH. Ariyh was born. But as Ariyh grew, some key issues with the name emerged: People did not know how to pronounce it or spell it. Frequently explaining the acronym was impractical, which meant the name did not mean anything to most people. The lack of meaning made it even harder to remember. This probably hurt word of mouth (how can you recommend a name you can’t pronounce or spell). It was clear that a more effective name was necessary.

Thomas McKinlay, Founder

Drawing from extensive research into effective brand and product naming, the new name, Science Says, was carefully chosen for several reasons:

  • It’s easier to pronounce, making it more trustworthy.
  • It avoids the pitfalls of misspelt words, enhancing effectiveness.
  • Made from a memorable wordplay.
  • With three syllables, it’s simple and internationally understandable.
  • It directly reflects the company’s core benefit—explaining what science says in marketing.

As part of the rebrand, the company has secured its Exact Brand Match (EBM) domain, ScienceSays.com. This is an important step because consumers typically search for the EBM domain when looking for a company. Dictionary-word .com domains are globally recognised, making them highly valuable for their memorability, clarity, and ability to convey authority.
