Grain.co Establishes Solid Global Presence by Securing Grain.com
By Arnaud PETIT access_time 2 min read

Grain is a communication platform for teams to turn everyday video meetings into shared team knowledge. The startup was founded by brothers Mike and Jake Adams in late 2018. We all know how with the pandemic online communication exploded, and Grain was one of the businesses that was there to solve and improve the need to share vital information in Zoom conversations.

Mike shares the inspiration behind Grain in an interview:

The big problem that I’m trying to solve with Grain is to make every minute that we spend working together and trying to understand each other to solve problems as effective as possible.

Mike Adams, Co-founder Grain

The brand name captures and communicates that mission – grain as a term is used for the time interval represented by a single point in charts.

The startup initially launched on the .co domain extension – the country domain extension for Columbia. It is a common choice for startups when they can’t yet justify investing in the .com matching their brand name. Other brands called Grain have come up with different solutions too – trygrain.com, grain.com.sg, grainapp.io to name a few.

Gartner predicts that 75% of conversations at work will be recorded and analyzed by 2025. Grain makes it simple for anyone to capture and share the moments they find worth remembering by creating highlight clips that form the foundation of a team’s spoken knowledge. Grain is clearly onto something and has been very successful with integrations with Slack, NotionHQ, Miro, Linear and many others. In November 2021 domain investor Eliot Silver spotted the domain name Grain.com changing hands and thought it is the credit card company Grain who has upgraded from trygrain.com to Grain.com. Turns out it wasn’t them – it was the communication platform that secured the domain. Great news for all Grain users and not so great for the other startups using the brand name Grain – it doesn’t seem like Grain will be selling their domain now anytime soon!
