Sachin Sinha, Founder and CEO of BangDB, talks for our “Names With Stories” series of interviews about the origin of the name BangDB, their choice of the domain name, and what is new and exciting in their future plans.
BangDB is a pioneer in AI-based Converged NoSQL database technology.
Why BangDB? What do you do and how does your brand name fit into it?
We operate in the Real-Time and predictive data analytics area where speed of processing is one of the main requirements. BangDB has two parts, “Bang” and “DB”. Bang represents speed and DB is for DataBase. Further, we are based out of Bangalore (India), “Bang” also represents part of “Bangalore”.
What was the process of selecting a brand name like? When did you know this was the one?
We wanted the local flavor to go into the brand name as well, along with the idea of core of the business to be represented in it. Hence combining DataBase (DB) and Bangalore (Bang) was easy to do. It’s only 6 letters long which fits really well.
What was the reason to get the domain name BangDB.com for your brand?
Ours is a global company, hence we needed the “.com” domain. BangDB is the product.
How has owning BangDB.com affected your business? Do you own any other domain names?
It is going well for us. The name is simple, short, and catchy. People understand it easily.
If you could have any domain name in the world would you still pick BangDB.com?
Yes.
How has BangDB evolved as a brand since you launched?
It has. People are attributing more meanings to it than we ever thought when we started. It’s growing and maturing continuously as we speak. Along with the product, it has started representing the solutions associated with it as well.
Has the pandemic affected your company in any way? What has changed since?
Yes. We integrated BangDB with different platforms, and since those platforms were affected by the pandemic, hence we got impacted too. We had to cut down the cost, reduce resources, etc. As part of the learning, we have removed most of the direct integrations (to remove explicit dependencies) and now predominantly going with more independent or implicit integrations.
What do you do to make sure your marketing is effective?
We heavily focus on content and the emphasis on organic part of the marketing is more than paid ones. We have been creating valuable content and solutions which are free of cost for the users and companies. We also offer BangDB free version for more adoptions.
What would your advice be to entrepreneurs who are just starting out, in general, and when it comes to branding and naming?
I feel Brand names are both personal and public at the same time. It represents who we are and also how we want the world to perceive us. The name should be simple, catchy, unique and contextual.
Sachin Sinha, Founder and CEO of BangDB
It could be an iterative process. Naming is hard but we know when we hit the right spot.
What is next for BangDB?
We are growing rapidly and wish to go aggressively in different markets and domains. We are releasing a SaaS product this month and then creating an app store for users to share and create apps for various use cases.
We will be raising more funds to expand to different geo locations, augmenting the team, and scaling the business in the coming months to take things to a completely new level. We operate in a very big market and the potential is huge. We have got the right product and solutions which are getting increasing traction in the market. We would like to capitalize on this and aim to be in the top 3 players in the world in the area.
