2025 marked a strong resurgence for unicorn startups. According to Crunchbase, 187 companies crossed the billion-dollar valuation mark – up 61% from the previous year. The driving force behind much of this growth was artificial intelligence: AI-native companies accounted for 47 of last year’s new unicorns, or 25% of the total, and that percentage seems likely to grow in 2026 as companies in that sector continue to draw significant investment.

Age was another standout factor: 94 of the new unicorns were less than five years old, proving that the window from founding to billion-dollar valuation has never been tighter.
The valuation of the global unicorn landscape reached approximately $5.2 trillion in 2025, up from $3.8 trillion in 2022, a 37% increase in just three years, with the United States continuing to lead the pack, hosting nearly half of all unicorns globally and accounting for the largest share of total unicorn valuation.
In the next section, we will analyse the naming and domain strategies of the new unicorns of 2025, examining how they have built their brand identity and solidified their online presence. This will provide insight into why strategic branding and online visibility matter so much for companies that have reached this important milestone.
Domain Names Highlights
Out of 167 companies analysed, 126 use .com domains – roughly 75% of the total. This comes as no surprise, as .com remains the most recognised and trusted domain extension on the internet, and customers instinctively expect it.

More than half of the companies on our list, 100 out of 167, use Exact Brand Match (EBM) domain names. EBM domains are a natural choice for most internet users when searching for the company online, offering brand consistency and a stronger online presence.

2 companies use a dash in their domain name, which can make it harder to remember and type, creating confusion and a less intuitive experience for users.

Naming Trends in Unicorn 2025 Companies
Dictionary Words as Brand Names
Using dictionary words as brand names remains a popular and effective strategy. These names make brands instantly recognisable, easy to remember, and globally accessible.
Examples: Meter, Stoke, Proof, Tempo, Scribe, Linear, Apex, Base, Owner, Harmonic, Chapter, Nourish, Imprint, Curative, Invisible, Modular, Substrate, Modal, Anaconda, Also, New Limit, Reflection, Ninja, Nothing, Raise, Dream.
Short names
Short names are quick to remember, easy to search, type, and share. They also look clean and effective in logos and product interfaces.
Examples: Fal, Suno, Reka, Fuse, Luma, Neko, Tala, Reve, Chai, Lila, Zama, Clay, Apex, Base, Omi, Mubi, Tide.
Creative Wordplay and Invented Names
Invented names give brands the freedom to define their own meaning. With no prior associations to overcome, these names are built entirely around the company’s identity.
Examples: Brevo (derived from the word “Bravo” – celebrating success), Legora (rooted in the Latin ‘legō’ and ‘legere’ – meaning to gather, choose, and read), Olipop (a combination of “oligosaccharide” – a prebiotic fiber used in the drink and “pop” – a colloquial term for soda), Mercor (from Latin for “to trade” or “to buy”), Enveda (blends the English word “enable” with the Sanskrit word “veda,” meaning “knowledge”).
Personal Names as Brand Names
Personal names foster familiarity and a human touch, making brands feel approachable.
Examples: Hadrian, Lila, Saviynt, Aragen, Isar, Luma, Eve.

Suno
Suno is an AI music generation company that allows anyone to create full songs lyrics, vocals, and instrumentation – simply by typing a prompt. In November 2025, the company reached unicorn status after raising a $250 million Series C round at a $2.45 billion valuation.
Over the last two years, nearly 100 million people have made music on Suno – many for the first time in their lives, discovering a passion they never knew they had. And this isn’t just a story about new creators: top producers and songwriters have integrated Suno into their daily workflows, and new artists emerging on Suno are being recognized by the industry’s most important charts. Suno has become a platform where imagination meets reality, at every level of the creative journey.
Suno
Initially operating under Suno.ai, the company later upgraded to the Exact Brand Match (EBM) domain name Suno.com. This move simplifies access, strengthens trust, and reduces risks like traffic loss or email leakage.
Suno.com also follows the highly effective CVCV (consonant vowel consonant vowel) pattern, a structure known for its simplicity, rhythm, and ease of pronunciation. CVCV names are easy to remember and work seamlessly across languages, making them ideal for global brands. Companies like Meta, Visa, Nike, and Citi show how this pattern supports strong recall and international reach, positioning Suno for long-term brand strength.

Brevo
Brevo is an all-in-one customer engagement platform that brings together email and SMS marketing, automation, CRM, live chat, and transactional messaging in a single solution. Founded in 2012 as Sendinblue, the company rebranded to Brevo in 2023 to reflect a broader vision beyond email marketing.
Renaming after a decade of operation is quite rare. There could be any number of reasons why companies rename — a change of ownership, or maybe because the name no longer stands out in a competitive landscape. In our case, it was to express a major business evolution: our product simply outgrew our name. Sendinblue started as a newsletter service. But today, only 31% of our clients are focused solely on sending newsletters.
Armand Thiberge, Founder & CEO of Brevo
The name “Brevo” is derived from the word Bravo, a term associated with success and celebration. It reflects the success of its customers and the company’s confidence in their growth. By replacing the “a” with an “e,” the name becomes more distinctive and ownable while retaining its positive, familiar feel.
In December 2025, Brevo raised €500 million in fresh equity funding, reaching a valuation of over $1 billion and achieving unicorn status.
Our ambition remains unchanged: to build a global European CRM leader capable of competing with US players through product excellence. This new phase will allow us to further accelerate our product roadmap, notably by leveraging AI, and to strengthen our operational excellence.
Armand Thiberge, Founder & CEO of Brevo
The company operates under Brevo.com, ensuring stronger brand consistency and easier global access.

Legora
Legora is a Swedish legal AI startup building AI-powered tools to support lawyers and legal teams in research, drafting, and workflow automation. Founded in 2023 under the name Leya, the company rebranded to Legora in February 2025 to better reflect its evolution, ambitions, and commitment to empowering lawyers to work more collaboratively.
The new name is rooted in the Latin ‘legō’ and ‘legere’, meaning to gather, choose, and read. Legora connects to words like legal, intellect, and collaborate, and encapsulates the company’s mission to empower exceptional lawyers.
Legora’s rebrand and new product enhancements mark a milestone in our evolution and reflect not only our growth but our unwavering commitment to deliver the world’s first truly collaborative AI for lawyers. As we enter this next chapter, we remain focused on innovating alongside our clients and providing AI-driven insights that give lawyers a decisive edge in an increasingly competitive market.
Max Junestrand, CEO and Co-Founder of Legora
In October 2025, Legora announced a $150 million Series C round at a $1.8 billion valuation.
We are seeing astronomical demand for our product. Legal professionals across the globe are adopting AI into their work at an unprecedented rate, and I could not be more proud of supporting our customers on this journey. I’m grateful for the strong backing of our investors, which enables us to execute on our vision: enabling the lawyer of the future and seamless collaboration between machine and human intelligence.
Max Junestrand, CEO and Co-Founder of Legora
Before the rebrand, the company operated on a .law extension. While the .law extension is tailored specifically for the legal industry, it comes with real drawbacks. As a newer, less familiar extension, it lacks the universal trust that .com enjoys, leading to traffic and email leaks and user confusion. Where .com is instinctive and widely recognised, niche extensions can quietly work against growth and visibility.
With the rebrand, Legora secured Legora.com, ensuring a clear, trusted, and consistent online presence.

Curative
Curative is a healthcare company focused on improving access to care through technology, data, and streamlined patient experiences. It initially gained prominence during the COVID-19 pandemic by providing large-scale testing solutions and has since expanded into health insurance and broader healthcare services.
In December 2025, Curative raised a $150 million Series B round at a $1.275 billion valuation.
Curative’s mission is to eliminate financial barriers and guide our members at every step of their health journey. This funding validates the disruptive model we’ve built, which leverages AI-driven technology, real human support, and aligned incentives to actually improve outcomes. We’re accelerating the modernization of the member experience, expanding into new markets, and scaling the impact we know the industry desperately needs. The momentum is real, and employers, brokers, and providers are seeing the value of a plan designed with their success in mind.
Fred Turner, CEO and co-founder
The company ensures global accessibility with its website, which can be found at the EBM domain Curative.com. Most leading healthtech companies operate on .com domain names that match their brand name to protect their brand and maximise online recognition.

Scribe
Scribe is a workflow AI platform that helps teams automatically capture, document, and share how work gets done. Instead of manually writing guides, users simply perform a task, and Scribe turns it into a step-by-step guide with text, links, and screenshots instantly. The platform is widely used for onboarding, training, SOPs, and customer support, helping teams scale knowledge and reduce repetitive questions.
In November 2025, the company announced a $75 million Series C funding round, valuing it at $1.3 billion and bringing it into the unicorn club.
We believe there’s an expert in everyone. On every team, there are go-to people who have figured out the best way to do every process. This knowledge powers every company, but it rarely gets shared because doing so is painfully manual and time-consuming. Keeping processes in our heads is one of the biggest problems facing teams today, but we’ve all just accepted it because we’ve never had any other choice. We built Scribe to change that. We’re on a mission to unleash and uplevel the world’s know-how.
Scribe
The company operates under the EBM domain Scribe.com, an intuitive choice for users searching for the company online, boosting visibility and protecting its brand identity.
